Hyaluronidase Treatment Post Care

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

  • Most patients are able to continue with normal activities with immediate improvement in their appearance. In the treated areas, redness, pinprick marks, swelling (particularly in the lips) and possibly bruising are common. Any swelling and bruising may be more prominent the day after treatment. If desired, apply ice for the first hour after treatment for ten minutes on and ten minutes off.
  • Any overcorrection resulting from the loss of your own hyaluronic acid will usually be temporary and is expected to resolve within a few days. The breakdown of the dermal filler will be permanent.
  • Please contact your provider if redness, tenderness, itching, or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than resolving.
  • As a consequence of swelling and the action of the hyaluronidase you may notice some asymmetry. The final result is usually not complete until 2 weeks.
  • DO NOT RUB, MASSAGE, or apply pressure to the treated area(s) today as these can undesirably displace the material. When cleansing your face or applying make-up, use gentle, sweeping motions to avoid excessive mobility of the area(s).
  • Wait 12 hours before applying makeup.
  • AVOID strenuous exercise or activity for the next 24 hours. You may resume other normal activity/routine immediately.
  • For 14 days following treatment AVOID: facial massaging, microneedling, microdermabrasion, laser, radio frequency treatments, and any Clarisonic cleaning system.
  • You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort. AVOID aspirin or ibuprofen products as they may increase your potential to bruise.
  • AVOID drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising and/or swelling.
  • AVOID extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided.
  • Hyaluronidase administration can result in anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) which in itself is life threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction can include shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, difficulty swallowing, swelling of the tongue, eyelids, lips, hoarseness of the voice, stomach pain, nausea or diarrhea. If you have any of the above symptoms please report to your nearest Emergency Department or call 911.
